>< Teaching and learning objectives:
The aim of the course is to provide an understanding of
the role of Information Systems within the organizational setting, with reference
to operational, management, professional and strategic requirements. This course
will discuss the different methods and frameworks for managing the implementation
and use of information systems in the strategic planning of management information
systems.
On successful completion of the course students will be able to identify different
types of information systems in an organization, explain how they serve the
various needs of organizations and explain how different types of information
systems can support decision-making process.
>< Course Content:
Organizational setting: systems,
data and information, and organization models. Operational and administrative
systems: transaction processing, office automation, Groupware. Business function
support systems: management information systems, decision support, knowledge
work systems, executive support systems. Expert systems. Strategic systems:
strategic planning, strategic information systems, and business process re-engineering.
Managing information systems: financial appraisal, acquisition, and security
risks.
>< Methodology:
The course will be delivered in a combination of lectures,
practical sessions, case studies and group work.

End-of- semester examination and continuous assessment.
