>< Objectives: At the end of this course
the student will be able to demonstrate practical skills relevant to; identification
of animal parasites and diagnosis of parasitic infections of man, domestic animals
and fish; and identification and quantification of plant parasitic nematodes.
>< Course content:
Identification of prepared slides of selected
parasites of man and domestic animals and fish; slide preparation, mounting
for intestinal amoebae and nematodes of man and their identification. Staining
and identification of life stages of malaria parasites of man. Parasitic surveys
– liver and gastro intestinal parasites of cattle; internal and external
parasites of rat and slide preparation and mounting for their identification.
Parasitic surveys of fish for external and internal parasites of fish;soil sampling
for population studies of parasitic nematodes, extraction of nematodes from
soil and plant materials, preservation and mounting for identification.
