>< Teaching and learning objectives:
The main objective of this course is introducing the students
to hardware, software and human components of information systems and giving
the students an appreciation of the range of information systems found in organizations.
On successful completion of the course students will be able to describe and
explain the internal structure of a computer and the use of different types
of information systems in different organizational settings.
>< Course Content:
Introduction to computer technology:
various kinds of computers, functional view of a computer, hardware, hardware
peripherals, communication equipment & concepts, Data representation, computer
system architecture, application software, system software, functionality of
operating systems, execution cycle, and live ware - IT staff, support staff
& end users.
>< Methodology:
The course will be delivered in a combination of Lectures,
supervised practical sessions, tutorials and group work.
>< Scheme of Evaluation:
End-of-semester examination and continuous assessment.
