Title : Web Technology and E-commerce Applications.

Objectives : At the end of this unit the student will be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the technology available for web-based application design and e-commerce applications.

Course Content :

Development of databases: Design of tables, establishment of relationships with tables, basic operations of databases, importing data from external sources
Form Design: use of forms, controls and control properties, design of forms, controls (check boxes, combo boxes etc.)
Event driven programming: the use of a form, introduction to basic control objects (command buttons, text boxes, combo boxes etc.). Branching (if .. endif, select case etc.) Control Loops (for .. next, while etc). Procedures and functions, interacting with user, arrays
Jet Database Engine, Connecting through ODBC
Querying the Database: Query by Example, Query by Form, Use of SQL commands
Mini group project
Reports: development of a variety of reports including tabular, group totals, sub totals and other standard reports
Practical sessions using VB 6
