>< Teaching and learning objectives:
This course introduces the concepts, principles, issues
and practices of operations management. Emphasis is placed on managerial processes
for achieving effective operations in manufacturing and service organizations.
On successful completion of this course, students will be able to undertake
planning and will be able to operate a simple manufacturing or service processes.
>< Course Content:
Introduction to operations management,
background and development of production management systems, product design
and process selection, strategic capacity planning, aggregate planning, operations
scheduling, materials planning and control, plant location, facility layout
types of production, quality management, recent trends in operations management.
>< Methodology:
The course will be delivered in a combination of lectures
and case analysis.
>< Scheme of Evaluation:
End-of-semester examination and continuous evaluation.
