>< Objectives: By the end of this course,
students will be able to understand biological aspects and control methods of
insect and acarine pests that are of agricultural, medical and veterinary importance
in Sri Lanka.
>< Course contents:
Order Acarina, Biology and control of insect
and mite pests of rice, coconut, tea, sugarcane and selected fruit and vegetable
crops in Sri Lanka, Biology and control of common stored product pests, Causes
of insect pest outbreaks, Concepts in insect pest management: General Equilibrium
Level, Economic Threshold Level and Economic Injury Level, Chemical, cultural
and biological control of insect and mite pests, Integrated pest management,
Biology and control of insect vector species of malaria, filaria, dengue, encephalitis,
yellow fever, typhus and plague, Biology and control of insect and acarine pest
species that are of veterinary importance in Sri Lanka.
