students will be able to demonstrate knowledge in biodiversity and critically
discuss methods used in biodiversity conservation

Biodiversity and its values, the major threats
to biodiversity, habitat fragmentation, exploitation of biological resources,
Introduction of alien species, pollution, extinction of species, concept of
minimum viable population size, sustainable utilization of biodiversity, Legal
and international aspects, current methods used in biodiversity conservation,
Ecotourism, Island biogeograply. Aims of wildlife management, Social organisation
of elephants, Human elephant conflict, elephant conservation, management of
crocodiles, Marine turtles, population analysis, life tables, patterns of population
growth, In-situ and ex-situ conservation.

combination of lectures, web-based studies and tutorials.
