>< Pre-requisite : All compulsory course
units in Zoology for the special degree students offered in the levels 1, 2
and 3 and the level 4 course units offered in the third year.
>< Objectives: By the end of this course,
students will be able to demonstrate skills to carry out a research project
according to the scientific method, analyse experimental data, interpret and
report the results in a scientific manner.
>< Course contents:
A short term research project is assigned to
each student under the supervision of a senior academic staff member at the
beginning of the 4th academic year. The projects may be carried out in the areas
of Ecology, Conservation Biology, Entomology, Environmental Toxicology, Physiology,
Fish Biology, Fisheries Management, Aquaculture, Plant Nematology and Parasitology.
Before commencement of the research work, plan and methodology of the project
should be presented at a seminar. A dissertation should be submitted before
the end of the academic year. Results should be presented at a seminar.
