Electrocyclic reactions, sigmatropic rearrangements and cycloaddition reactions.

Reaction Intermediates, Mechanisms and Stereochemistry

Generation of carbocations, neighbouring group participation, norbornyl carbocation, carbanions; hydrocarbon acidity, stability & rearrangements; E1, E2, E1cb elimination reactions, isotope effects, carbenes and free radicals, substituent effects and linear free energy relationships, prostereoisomerism, dynamic stereochmistry.

Advanced Spectroscopic Methods in Organic Chemistry

NMR spectra; non first order spectra, simplification of complex spectra (shift reagents,INDOR), 13C NMR, chemical shifts and signal intensities, pulsed techniques, DEPT, gated decoupling, 2D NMR. Mass spectrometry; high resolution spectra, MALDI ToF, chemical ionization techniques, GC-MS, ORD and CD techniques.

Heterocyclic Chemistry

Chemistry of aromatic heterocylic compounds containing one and two hetero atoms.
