MBBT 41055
>< Type/Status : Compulsory
>< Course title : Developmental Gene Regulation
>< Objective: Having completed the course,
the student will be able to analyse and explain different genetic regulatory
mechanisms operating at different stages of development in eukaryotes.
>< Course content:
Essentiality of developmental regulation in
higher organisms. Tissue-specific gene regulation as a mechanism of developmental
regulation. Tissue-specific gene expression in Drosophila, nematodes and mammals.
Regulatory cascades. Genetic regulation of mammalian sex determination during
development. The sex determination pathway in Drosophila. Role of enhancer elements
in tissue specificity. Gene regulation in plant development. Tissue-specific
expression in plants. Exploitation of tissue- specific gene regulation in biotechnology.
>< Methodology: Lectures
and tutorials.
>< Scheme of evaluation: End of course written
examination.
